By Fred Kroner

Mahomet-Seymour senior softball pitcher Karley Yergler is the first Bulldog ever selected to the Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A All-State First Team.

As a junior, Yergler and senior Aubrie Shore were the second and third MS athletes ever selected to the CIA Class 3A All-State Softball Second Team, joining 2011 grad Jamie Scott in that group of ‘elite.

This year, Yergler was one of 21 players from across the state to receive First Team Class 3A laurels. She won 23 games and averaged 2.02 strikeouts per inning, while leading the Bulldogs 27-7 to fourth place in the Class 3A state tournament.

Three MS players were awarded All-Conference First-Team accolades in voting by Apollo Conference coaches.

Joining Yergler on the 12-man first team teammates were senior first baseman Abbey Akers and junior third baseman Brooke Howard.

One MS player was recognized on the eight-man All-Apollo second team: sophomore shortstop Maddie Cortez.

The four Bulldogs who earned playoff honors have batted at least .352 for the season. Yergler hit a school record 17 homers. Akers had a team record 11 doubles.

Yergler, a Parkland College freshman, was a repeat all-conference first-team selection.
