SYRACUSE, NY – The Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York (BIA) has announced the cancellation of its 2022 Central New York Winter Boat Show.
The show was scheduled for mid-February at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. With its member marinas and New York Sea Grant, BIA offers four alternative activities for boating enthusiasts. Learn more at https://www.cnywinterboatshow.com.
“Our standard at the Central New York Winter Boat Show is to showcase hundreds of all new models of power and sail boats, sport and pontoon boats, personal watercraft and docks. With the challenge of low inventory to fill two huge buildings of the state fairgrounds, the decision was made to cancel the 2022 show and offer alternatives to fill the void by the 2023 show, ”explained the president of BIA, Bernard DeGraw.
Here are some alternatives to the venue for the canceled event:
1. Create your own boat show
“Although the inventory is too small to organize a full show, we encourage people to plan their own traveling water show. Schedule a tour of the dealers to visit to see what they have for new and used boats or to discuss with them ordering a boat to your specifications. Use dealer showrooms as mini boat shows, ”suggested Drew Wickham, director of the Central New York Boat Show. 2. Purchase the required navigation equipment and recommended accessories.
“Speaking with marine dealers is a great way to find out more about the required and recommended equipment to have on board your boat to be legally, safe and environmentally responsible on New York waters. They can also tell you about the latest trending accessories, ”said DeGraw, who is the managing partner of Frontenac Harbor Marina and FLX Marine in Union Springs and Canandaigua, New York, respectively.
3. Enroll in a boating safety certification class
Previous Mid-New York Winter Boat Shows have featured a New York State Boating Information Center and Safety Program developed by New York Sea Grant. Visitors to the show learned about New York’s Brianna Law which requires operators of powerboats born on or after May 1, 1996 to have a Safe Boating Certificate, and those who operate personal watercraft in New York waters have 14 years or older with a security certificate.
