Plea says they abused their positions and made false allegations against HC judges
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday for contempt of court against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi, State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut for allegedly making remarks against justice.
The plea was filed by the Indian Bar Association, claiming that Mr Thackeray, Mr Patil and Mr Raut abused their positions and made several ‘false, outrageous and contemptuous’ allegations against judges of the Bombay High Court .
The PIL also calls for contempt proceedings against Ms Thackeray, editor of Shiv Sena’s spokesperson samana, and its printer and publisher Vivek Kadam.
“The respondents are in power and are engaged in a campaign of scandalization of the entire judicial system only because the judgments rendered by the courts do not suit them. They plan to keep their opponents in jail or harass them through the abuse of power and the police apparatus, which have failed because of the orders of this Court and the Supreme Court.
The plea claims that slogans were hurled at Bombay High Court judges after members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won redress from the court in the Kirit Somaiya case. The PIL is registered to be heard on April 26.
