INDIANA BOROUGH POLICE RECEIVES NEW EQUIPMENT FROM PA ASSOCIATION OF POLICE CHIEFS

This morning, members of the Pennsylvania Association of Chiefs of Police visited the Indiana Borough Police Department to showcase new equipment that will improve its Criminal Investigations Division.

Through the Latent Evidence Enhancement Project, which is a grant of more than $500,000 secured by the Association of Chiefs of Police through the PA Department of Crime and Delinquency, police in the Indiana borough received investigative materials worth just over $12,000.

Some of the equipment that was donated was a crime scene processing kit with equipment that two detectives used during a training course with the association; a digital camera setup; a 4-foot fumigation chamber to detect fingerprints on objects used by offenders; and equipment to process DNA from a scene.

Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said the equipment would help local and regional investigative divisions.

Sargent Detective Jeff Atherton said the equipment will add more evidence for court cases.

Ken Zipovsky of the Pennsylvania State Association of Chiefs of Police details what the association looks at when distributing grant funds.
