TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Mochamad Iriawan is to be questioned as a witness to the police investigation into the deadly match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium which resulted in the deaths of over 130 fans in a massive stampede.
He is due to undergo police questioning on Thursday this week.
National police spokesman Chief Commissioner Nurul Azizah said East Java police investigators would call other witnesses apart from Iriawan. He is a criminal expert from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
“Our plan is to interview a criminal expert on November 2 and then call a witness, the president of the PSSI,” Nurul said at the national police headquarters on November 1.
Mochamad Iriawan and PSSI Vice President Iwan Budianto met with investigators from the East Java Police Criminal Investigation Branch on Thursday, October 20. The police questioned them both as witnesses for the suspects.
