California Lawyers Association to Honor Outgoing Chief Justice with Judicial Excellence Award and Recognize Distinguished Bar Leaders

SACRAMENTO, Calif., August 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The California Lawyers Association (CLA) is pleased to recognize the outstanding contributions of outgoing California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, who completes her 12-year term on January 2, 2023after 32 years of service at all levels of the state justice system.

Chief Judge Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye who was the first person of color and second woman to serve as the state’s Chief Justice, will receive the inaugural Judicial Excellence Award on September 17, 2022. She completes her 12-year term as Chief Justice and President of the Judicial Council on January 2, 2023after 32 years of public service at all levels of the state justice system.

The Judicial Excellence Award was created to recognize a member of the California Judiciary who exemplifies CLA’s mission and is dedicated to promoting excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession. The recipient of the Judicial Excellence Award is also committed to improving the administration of justice and upholding the rule of law.

The award can be given to any individual or organization that has had a local or national positive impact on the justice system and the preservation of the rule of law. The Honorable Rupert A. Byrdsong, Justice of the Superior Court of Los Angeles and president of the CJF, will present the chef Judge Cantil-Sakauye with the price.

Somita Basu, chairman of the executive committee of the CLA’s Individual and Small Firms Section and founder and partner of Norton Basu LLP, will receive the California Lawyers Association’s Excellence in Leadership Award. This award is given to an ACC volunteer who demonstrates a commitment to the association’s mission and represents outstanding leadership in the practice of law.

CLA Privacy Law Section will receive the California Lawyers Association Chapter Innovation Award. This award is given to a Section that demonstrates a commitment to promoting excellence in the Section’s area of ​​practice.

San Diego County Bar will receive the Outstanding Organization of the Year Award from the California Lawyers Association. This award is presented to an organization that exemplifies leadership, dedication and a spirit of collaboration that reflects CLA’s mission to promote excellence, diversity and inclusion in the California legal profession, as well as a commitment to the fair administration of justice and the rule of law.
